From 1st January, 2010 a free electricity market started operating in Lithuania. According to the Lithuanian electricity market development plan, all electricity consumers will be able to freely choose an independent electricity supplier (IES) in the following stages:
- From 01.01.2010 IESs are already chosen by large electricity users with permissible power of 400 kW or above;
- From 01.01.2011 IESs can be chosen by users with permissible power of 100 kW or above;
- From 01.01.2012 IESs have to be chosen by users with permissible power of 30 kW or above;
- From 01.01.2015 IESs can be chosen freely by all users, including domestic users.
